Incision and excision are by definition invasive and destructive. The surgical process is destructive. The surgical repair process (the reordering of the tissues) is constructive, creative. Creativity is central to all surgery.

The deformities requiring operation of the class are necessarily so dissimilar in different cases, that every new one becomes a separate study to the surgeons and offer a fresh field for the exercise of his mind in restoring the lost or deformed parts.

The solution to clinical problems often requires creativity.

The creative act, whether in art, mathematics, music, or an operation, is intellectual; hence, the broader the physician’s intellectual base, the more likely will be a successful outcome, all things being otherwise equal.

This relationship is inherent in the concept of the prepared scientific mind and consequently in the prepared surgical mind. It takes only repetition to learn a skill. Creativity, on the other hand, requires that skills be sublimated to the subminds of trained surgeons, these skills enable them to carry out each step of the appropriate solution with sureness and dispatch.

Surgical procedures have not been forgotten completely, despite the actual trend that surgeons should try to do a minimal effort to gain a maximum effect.

Of course, there are a lot of procedures that don’t need an extensive surgery anymore to have that same result as a minimal invasive one, or a non-surgical one.

Surgical procedures, such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, breast lift, or nose reshaping  are the most requested in our facility and patients love our results. Breast augmentation is one of the most requested, but the mammary implants have changed in the last decade very much.

First, more than 10 years ago, in 2002, we used saline implants, but now from 2004 until we speak, we are using cohesive memory gel implants for augmenting the breast. The mammary implants are an exquisite solution that helps us fulfill the patient’s dreams.

But, strangely, there are new methods of breast augmentation, and that consists of filling and shaping the breast with the patient’s own fat, which is extracted by liposuction of the fatty areas.So, there is a new method, that of course, can be combined with implants, so the final result can be the best for the patient.

Whe we talk about the body shaping, this term includes shaping of the neck, torso, hip, abdomen and extremities.

The types of procedures we perform to shape the body, involve surgical excisions, liposuction, implantation, fat injections and in rare instances other modalities.

Since the advent of bariatric surgery with extreme weight loss and sagging of tissues, body contouring has become more extensive and consequently with more complications. Clothes have been used to accentuate the body contour in certain areas and minimize in the other areas.

Therefore, patients are requesting improvement in the shape of their bodies in order to accomodate the clothes that are fashionable.

There are limits as to what surgery will accomplish but certainly the procedures that are available  can improve  the shape but rarely can make it perfect. Patients should be made to understand the limits of the procedures, the limits of the correction that can be obtained, and the possibility of complications that may permanently mar the patient’s appearance.

The cosmetic surgery patient usually expects perfection without complications even when the possible risks and complications are thoroughly discussed.

These are elective procedures on patients who are usually in good health although this in not necessarily true, for ie the post bariatric surgery patient.

Obesity increases the risk of surgery and the patients whi is overweight should be specifically informed of this problem.
